Did you ever curate your outfit for school the next day, carefully setting it out for easy dressing in the morning? It’s actually a useful routine to bring into adulthood, and we think Jennifer Garner would agree. The actor recently shared a peek inside her walk-in closet in the form of a sweatpant purging recap and we noticed something interesting: a valet hook.

Also called a valet rod, this handy tool provides a convenient place to hang garments in a forward-facing fashion. Not only is it a fun way to highlight a single outfit, but it can also be a powerful tool when you’re doing a big closet clean-out like Garner. Unsure about that shirt you haven’t worn in three seasons? Put it on the hook, give it a good look, make a decision.
We’ve seen some eye-catching rods out there. Stylist Leith Clark subscribes to the “next day display,” and has a simple knobbed design hanging next to her closet (see above).
Taking it a step further, Clare Vivier has a telescoping rack tucked inside her closet that is stocked with pieces that bring her joy. Another spot we’d put a valet hook? The laundry room, for air drying. Our favorites start at just $23.

Available in six finishes, this one is the perfect size for a set of shirts waiting to be nestled into a suitcase (did we mention it’s also a great tool for mid-packing organization?).
The notches on this rod make it easy to hold a couple of items—and it can be lowered when it’s not being used.
This design would be great for someone who religiously swaps out seasonal clothing. Finally, a spot where you can admire all of your fall jackets at once.
A bit more abstract than the others, this rack lies flat against the wall when it isn’t holding the weight of the next day’s work outfit.
