Joe Rogan Takes Delivery of Custom Porsche 911 RSR


Joe Rogan has never been shy about his passion for machines that excite, and his latest addition is proof he’s not slowing down any time soon. The comedian, podcast host, and devoted car collector just took delivery of a custom 1985 Porsche 911 RSR tribute, painstakingly built by The RSR Project, a boutique outfit known for turning classic air-cooled 911s into period-correct motorsport legends with modern-day reliability.

This isn’t just a vintage Porsche with a pretty face. Founder Richard Schickman, who personally led the build, reengineered the car from the ground up with the kind of obsessive attention to detail usually reserved for factory race teams. At its heart is a 3.5-liter powerplant producing 310 horsepower, featuring twin-plug heads, a GT3 intake plenum, Clewett throttle bodies, an Emtron SL ECU, Elgin cams, Lucas injectors, and Bosch coil packs. The engine is mated to a fully rebuilt transmission and suspension, giving the car the raw edge of a seventies racer but the dependability to be driven hard without hesitation. Schickman describes it simply: “For Joe Rogan, we wanted to create something truly special. This car is spectacular. Absolutely thrilling and reliable to drive.”

Getting there meant a complete teardown. Every steel component was magnafluxed and sonic-tanked, pistons and rods were balanced to within a gram, crank journals polished to perfection. Heads were glass-beaded, resurfaced with hair-splitting precision, and given a competition-level valve job before being rebuilt with new springs and guides. Even the transmission was stripped down and reassembled with new synchros and seals. The result looks as though it just rolled out of Stuttgart in 1973, but with performance levels Porsche’s engineers of the time could only dream of.

The body began life as a humble 1985 Carrera tub, which was stripped bare and reshaped into the iconic “longhood” profile, complete with steel flares and the kind of details Porsche purists dream about. A concours-level paint job, 15×9 and 15×11 Braid Fuchs wheels wrapped in Michelin TB15s, a ducktail spoiler, fiberglass bumpers, and Carrera striping finish the transformation. It’s the kind of car you can imagine storming down the Mulsanne Straight, except this one is destined for Rogan’s garage, and likely, plenty of spirited miles.

Inside, the build continues its theme of old-school motorsport authenticity paired with custom flourishes. The cabin has been completely stripped and reupholstered, starting with a Porsche Classic dash that nails the period look. RS-style panels, Perlon carpeting, and exposed pull straps keep the vibe pure and lightweight, while Rogan’s personal touch comes in the form of fixed-shell bucket seats trimmed in black vinyl with woven leather and nickel grommets that nod to the legendary GT40 racers of the sixties. A Momo Prototipo wheel, Wevo short shifter, and a fuss-free radio delete plate ensure nothing gets in the way of the driving experience. Rogan opted to skip the modern extras, though he did approve a discreet electric air conditioning system.

Before handing over the keys, Schickman and his team put the car through more than 700 miles of testing, making sure it not only looked like a vintage racer but behaved like one, too. The result is a machine that howls with mechanical purity yet is built to take on real miles, not just sit under a spotlight. Starting at $375,000, commissions like these deliver a piece of history reborn, customized for those who want to feel the road as it was meant to be felt. And for Joe Rogan, it’s one more thrilling toy in a garage that’s already the stuff of legends.
