A few days ago, Spotify finally announced the rollout of lossless audio, after many, many years of anticipation from its users, and today the service has even more good news.
This time, it’s all about its free plan. This will now let you listen to any track you want to, either by picking it from a playlist or searching for it. If this sounds weird, note that previously, you couldn’t do this – you had to listen to a shuffled playlist that contained what you wanted instead. Obviously, that was in a bid to get you to pay for the Premium plan.
We’re not sure why Spotify decided to make this change now, but it is definitely very welcome for those who are on the free plan. Perhaps Spotify has enough paying customers now that it doesn’t need to artificially restrict the free plan so much. That said, do keep in mind that the rest of the free plan’s ways to get you to pay are still alive and well – which primarily means ads. You will hear ads often. You also get a limited number of times to skip a track, and lower quality streams.
