No one does game day like the South. That part you already know. What you plan on serving at your watch party this Saturday, that part you might still be figuring out. Thankfully, we’ve got a lineup of tailgate-ready recipes at your disposal. Many of them are the definition of “less is more,” and that includes our six-ingredient Rotel Sausage Dip. Not only does the Southern Living Test Kitchen give it high praise—calling it “happiness with meat added”—our readers can’t get enough of it either.

Why We Love Rotel Sausage Dip
If you’ve ever been to a football watch party, there’s a good chance this dip was on the table. It’s peak game day fare, and it’s surprisingly easy to make. The recipe calls for just six ingredients: olive oil, ground beef, chorizo, Velveeta, and canned diced tomatoes and green chiles. Rotel is our go-to here, and it’s what gives the dip its signature flavor. Finish it with a pinch of crushed red pepper, and you’ll have a crowd-pleasing appetizer ready for dipping in no time.
All you need is 20 minutes of active time, and then your slow cooker takes care of the rest. The Test Kitchen also recommends you “make sure you switch your slow cooker to warm after it’s done melting the cheese so it doesn’t continue to cook. Stir frequently to avoid a film developing on top of the dip.”
