Fashionista's August Shopping List: 24 Items Our Editors Love

As August slips away into a moment in time, team Fashionista is spending summer’s final days curating our fall transitional wardrobes.

We’re always in the market for good denim, and this month revealed chic straight-leg jeans, breathable vintage-inspired shorts, slouchy pinstriped pants and a matching mauve-colored denim jacket-and-shorts set. We gravitated toward statement pieces like a zebra-print midi skirt, burgundy python ballet flats and bright fuchsia sneakers. This month, we also enjoyed our comfy athleisure in the form of a lightweight, boxy track jacket and leggings with a fold-over waistband. On the accessories front, a cutesy Polly Pocket-inspired necklace, puffy cat-eye sunglasses, a mushroom-adorned watch and bedazzled earbuds lined our late summer wishlists.

Ahead, see (and shop!) all of our favorite sartorial discoveries from August.

Nordstrom Exclusive Adidas München Sneaker in Semi Lucid Fuschia, $110, available here: “I have been on the hunt for a comfortable, but equally adorable, bright-pink sneaker for years — I’m not joking! I’ve always been an Adidas fan, but finding a unique colorway in stock anywhere has consistently been tricky ever since Harry Styles sported every variant during his last arena tour. (Please come back, I promise I’m not mad.) Finally, Nordstrom has come to my rescue with an exclusive collection of vivid hues to choose from. They’ve already become my new slip-on shoe.” —Brooke Frischer, Associate Editor and Social Media Manager

Elisa Johnson Jane Mini in Red Tortoise, $145, available here: “I fell so in love with these sunglasses at first sight that I literally interrupted a conversation the girl wearing them next to me at a coffee shop was having in order to ask her what brand they were. The squared off frames offer a fresh take on aviators (who knew that was even possible?), and the colored lenses are also a lovely touch.” —Steph Saltzman, Beauty & Style Director

Timex x seconde/seconde/ 38mm Stainless Steel Watch, $249, available here: “Last month, Timex deputed a fun collab in partnership with seconde/seconde/, a French design studio by Romaric André, and it’s easy to see why I couldn’t resist this timepiece — well, if you zoom in. The rotating bezel holds a teeny tiny mushroom atop a rich navy blue face outlined by a matching dial. It’s a great conversation starter.” —Savannah Sitton, Market & Branded Content Editor

On Track Jacket, $180, available here: “As a Zendaya stan, I of course had to snag something from her On collaboration. But seriously, this track jacket is exactly what my gym apparel rotation needed: It’s lightweight, breathable and layerable. And once I’m done working out, I can cinch the hem for a cropped, streetwear-friendly look.” —Janelle Sessoms, Staff Writer

Tkees Square Toe Lily Croc, $135, available here: “I’d had my eye on a certain pair of designer flip-flops for some time, but I’m not someone who could ever justify spending upwards of $400 on flip flops. This much more accessibly priced pair is a perfectly respectable dupe, with a chic square toe and croc material that looks good with just about any outfit. And they’re neutral without being boring. ” —Steph

Frances Valentine Stacy’s Mom Jean, $248, available here: “These straight-leg jeans have got it going on. Despite the low-rise renaissance dominating my fellow Gen Zers’s closets, I’m partial to high-rise denim silhouettes in all their waist-snatching glory. This dark wash pair from Frances Valentine offers a flexible fit perfect for versatile styling: Dress them down with a classic graphic tee, or go for a bold double denim moment. If you look closely, you’ll catch my favorite detail: A sneaky bright red ‘XO’ embroidered on the right pocket.” —Catie Pusateri, Contributing Writer

Marc Jacobs 48mm Gradient Small Cat Eye Sunglasses, $242, available here: “I love a funky frame when it comes to sunglasses, and these are giving ‘Brat’ meets inflatable balloon in the best way possible.” —Brooke

Athleta Salutation Stash Fold Over 7/8 Legging, $120 $60, available here: “I just moved back to L.A. from the east coast, so my wardrobe has consisted largely of activewear while I unpack. In preparation for leggings season, I’m so excited to have found my new favorite pair: I love the ribbed fold-over waistband, which is extra stretchy and the side pockets on both thighs, which are sleek and flat, but big enough for my phone. I might buy a second pair while they’re discounted.” —Savannah

Suzie Kondi The Tosk Harem Pants in Terry, $250, available here: “There is basically nothing about these elevated sweatpants I don’t love: the roomy tapered and cropped silhouette, the ultra-soft terry cloth, the fact that they were inspired by the traditional Touman pants worn by the designer’s Albanian grandmother. Also, I was very much a child of the Juicy Couture sweatsuit era, and these — when paired with a matching terry top, like the Capri Tee — are a modern take that hits me right in the nostalgia.” —Steph

Margaux The Phoebe Burgundy Python Embossed, $355, available here: “These ballet flats are as beautiful as they are comfortable. Even with the snake print, they tie in to nearly any formal outfit I wear for work events, all while boasting plush, foam-padded insoles to keep my feet comfortable.” —Janelle

Alex + Ani Polly Pocket House Locket Necklace, $68, available here: “As a major Polly Pocket fan, I immediately grab my wallet anytime I spot a new collaboration. This month, Alex + Ani released an entire Polly Pocket jewelry collection, the star of which is this locket necklace designed to resemble a classic Polly Pocket compact, complete with its very own Polly (!). (Don’t worry, she’s chained to the compact and fits neatly inside.) The nostalgic collection immediately sold out, but it’s expected to restock in September.” —Catie

Staud Laura Linen Dress, $450 $220, available here: “I, like many New Yorkers, spent much of August sweating and complaining about the humidity. This dress, which is airy and floats away from the body, was a clutch dressing option for me. I get compliments every time I wear it — and it’s majorly on sale right now.” —Steph

Ksubi Ksuper Mayfair Blue Spliced Pants, $260, available here: “There are few things in this life I cherish more than a perfectly slouchy jean, and this pinstriped pair has captured my heart. I love the way they’re slightly barreled and fall right over the foot, leaving just a peek of a shoe. I am also very into the drawstring element, as I am a firm believer that every pair of pants should feel like sweatpants.” —Brooke

Chan Luu Koi Earrings Garnet, $295, available here: “I came upon these cute little fish earrings while I was perusing BNTO ahead of a recent vacation, and they really delighted me. I’m not normally a huge dangly-earring wearer, but these are so fun and perfectly on trend.” —Steph

Seavees Tahoe Trekker, $180, available here: “I’m prepping for fall with anything suede, especially in a deep rich brown shade. Seavees’ latest silhouette is a lightweight clog with a buckle backing and convenient pull tab, making them super easy to put on and wear. Plus, the thick lugged Vibram outsole makes them the ultimate dog-walking shoes that pair nicely with any outfit.” —Savannah

Ossa Pearl Crossbody, $295, available here: “The concept of a crossbody strap for one’s phone has always seemed a bit Boomer to me (no offense to Boomers! I’m just… not one). And then I saw this lovely one made from freshwater pearls and black cording, and the concept instantly became much cooler to me. The knots between each gem toughen up the effect of all those pearls, and you just can’t beat the practicality of being able to sling your phone across your torso or over your shoulder. It’s ideal for travel, running errands and wearing along with a mini handbag that’s too small to fit your phone.” —Steph

H&M Zebra Print Midi Skirt, $40, available here: “Although I typically opt for solid colors, I do appreciate spicing up my closet with some fun prints every now and then. This zebra-print midi skirt is the perfect transitional item heading into fall: It’s lightweight enough to survive the remaining summer weeks, yet very layerable once it starts to cool down. Styling-wise, given that the print does most of the heavy lifting, I can pair it with a basic tee and loafers and go about my day.” —Janelle

DL1961 Lisette Shirt, $179 $134, available here: “Slim-fit button-down shirts transcend seasons, but this blue-and-white striped one feels especially fitting for the final days of summer. It’s 100% cotton, making it a lightweight option perfect for any Labor Day outing. I particularly love the pointed collar and the crisp, tall cuffs that instantly add a touch of sophistication to a pair of baggy, light-wash jeans.” —Catie

Urban Outfitters Out From Under Bec Low-Rise Micro Mini Skort, $39, available here: “I recently rediscovered this ultra-comfy skort in my closet and have not stopped wearing it since. It’s a mini, but it’s not so tiny that I feel naked walking around my neighborhood. Beyond being very cute, it’s also a great piece for 80-plus-degree weather bike rides.” —Brooke

Nuuds A-Line Vintage Cut-Off Short, $98, available here: “When Nuuds, which is known for its glove-like fits, launched denim shorts, I was excited to try them, and they did not disappoint: The denim is so soft and breathable, yet still structured. I wadded these up in my beach bag while damp, and was shocked when I pulled them on later without a single wrinkle or bent hem. The brand offers these in ‘Classic’ or ‘Nuuds Curve’ sizing, the latter of which accounts for a couple of extra inches around the midsection for ultimate comfort, so it’s no surprise that these fit like a glove, no tailoring needed.” —Savannah

Motorola x Swarovski Moto Buds Loop, $300, available here: “As someone who missed the whole bedazzled flip phone era, I’m living for these Swarovski crystal-decorated wireless earbuds. They’re just the right amount of flashy without looking too obnoxious, and they’re shaped like mini headphones, which is just so camp. I really appreciate how I’ve had no problems with them falling out of my ears, and the sound quality is beyond crisp.” —Janelle

Karen Millen Colored Denim Button Jacket, $199 $119, available here and Colored Denim Tailored Short, $159, available here: “As summer winds down, I’m curating my fall transitional wardrobe with as many matching sets as possible. Karen Millen’s mauve-y pink denim set are especially chic for the impending fluctuating weather, and they can easily be styled with other pieces in my neutrals-forward closet. Plus, as a dedicated gold jewelry girl, the jacket’s gold buttons ensure all my accessories can match.” —Catie

Modular Closets Total Closet Kit, $670, available here: “I do have a closet; however, no closet is enough space for a fashion editor. I wanted to expand my wardrobe but was scared of a hefty DIY project (I’m no carpenter) so I’m so thankful I discovered this brand. It has a very user-friendly 3-D tool for planning, as well as a one-on-one designer service through which I worked with a space-saving expert to build my dream closet. Now that it’s been set up (I did hire a task rabbit for that part), I’m floored by how perfectly it fits in and how luxurious it looks (I added doors). Every inch was designed to fit my bedroom and needs, and that is priceless.” —Savannah

Sanctuary Open Knit Bomber Cardigan Sweater, $89, available here: “I would go so far as to say this is the best jacket for summertime: The open knit is lightweight and breathable, but still provides ample coziness when needed, say in a movie theatre or on windy nights by the water. I also love that the bomber silhouette feels different for the summer season. I’ve barely left the house without it this month.” —Savannah
